After a week of viruses, injury’s and infections (I kid you not), today we all got back to business putting together the new wet-room and lobby. It was a very exciting moment as the principle rafter was hoisted into place. Made from an oak from the woods at Tanyfron, it should keep that part of the house going for another couple of hundred years at least. I felt immense gratitude for the tree and a little sorry that we had to take it down (to leany (its a word and close to the house to be safe) but happy that we really are making good use of it. Timber framing is an incredible skill to be learning.
I got back to the garden today after a week of virus based absence. There is a huge amount of produce coming out now and even more gaps opening up that are needing to be filled. Last week I started a never ending veg stew which continues to be topped up and provide for us all (well, the ones that eat vegetables!!). Also used other leftovers to make a gigantic lasagne. Matt has made a chilli jam and a couple of different tomato chutneys and i think what may be the last basil crop needs to made into pesto. Phew! We are able to share excess produce locally at Welshpool’s ’Give and Take’ event that runs on Saturday mornings outside the town hall.
On a personal note, we finally unpacked the last couple of boxes and are looking forward to soon becoming fully fledged co-op members. The strength we feel being so closely connected with so many (in our co-op and to other co-ops and community groups feels very reassuring in such uncertain times and also very powerful.
We have a new co-op member joining us in November which is super exciting. They have a lot of amazing skills that Im looking forward to learning from and a playful nature which inspires me to remember that not EVERYTHING I do needs to have more of a purpose than fun!!
