PRESENT
where we are
We have vacancies for volunteers! Please see our INFO section for more about this if you’re interested.
Here’s where we are at the moment: nine adults, three young people, three cats, a few chickens and a ton of stuff to do. We’ve been through some challenging times since lock-down, losing more than half our community to the wider world. No one’s fault, no conflict involved, people move on for various reasons and life and bad health doesn’t always give us much choice. New folk have moved in and brought a freshness to the community that is welcome after the stresses and strains the pandemic placed on us. Now we’re looking ahead and striving to get back to where we want to be.
Plans currently going ahead are many. We’ve replaced the rotten timber-frame wall that formed part of a small annex off the dining room with a new oak frame sourced from our own woodland, and are currently (as of end May. 23) getting ready to lime render onto lath both inside and out. This will be a lobby, giving us access to the garden from the middle of the house, and also a lovely new shower room and loo. Also, we’re planning for planting, both winter and next year. And, most importantly, because we’re a new group with only two original members here now, we are starting from scratch with a new permaculture design – this is so that new folk can get involved and really feel they have a say and contribution to the design of the place. Permaculturally, we would file this under Observe and Interact and Integrate Rather than Segregate by the founder members and we’ll talk more about this in those sections on the website.
We are also joining Radical Routes! More about that later.
